  • Author: lina
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 8 pies 1x

Description

This Asian-Style Beef Pie recipe combines savory ground beef with a flavorful soy-ginger sauce, encased in crispy golden pastry topped with sesame seeds. Perfect as a delicious snack or appetizer, these hand pies are baked to perfection for a satisfying, flavorful treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef Mixture

  • 250 g ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 tablespoon sugar
  • 3 teaspoon corn flour
  • 1/3 cup water

Pastry & Topping

  • 300 g store-bought pastry, cut into squares
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 3 tablespoon sesame seeds (more or less to your liking)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sauce and Beef Mixture: In a small bowl, combine the corn flour, water, soy sauce, grated ginger, sugar, and sesame oil. Gradually add this sauce to the ground beef and finely chopped onion, stirring continuously to allow the beef mixture to absorb the sauce evenly.
  2. Assemble the Pies: Cut the store-bought pastry into approximately 8cm squares. Place a portion of the beef mixture on each square. Fold or cover the pastry over the filling and seal the edges by crimping with a fork to ensure no filling escapes during baking.
  3. Prepare for Baking: Place the sealed pies on baking paper-lined baking trays. Brush the tops of each pie with beaten egg yolk for a golden finish and sprinkle generously with sesame seeds for added flavor and texture.
  4. Bake the Pies: Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F). Bake the pies for 20-25 minutes or until the pastry is puffed up and golden brown, indicating they are cooked through and ready to serve.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add chopped spring onions or chili flakes to the beef mixture.
  • Make sure to seal the pies tightly to prevent the filling from leaking during baking.
  • If you prefer, these pies can be made ahead and refrigerated before baking.
  • Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to ensure clean pastry squares for uniform pies.
  • Serve warm for the best taste and texture.
