Ingredients
Scale
Ground Beef Mixture
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (85/15)
- 1/2 yellow onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup hamburger pickles, chopped
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon coarse ground pepper
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
McDonald’s Secret Sauce
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup French dressing
- 2 tablespoons sweet relish
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
To Assemble (Double Decker)
- 8 hamburger buns (with seeds)
- 2 cups iceberg lettuce, shredded
- 12 hamburger pickle chips
- 4 slices American cheese
- Additional sauce, optional
Instructions
- Brown the Ground Beef: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and cook the ground beef halfway for about 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally to break it up.
- Add Onion and Seasonings: Add the finely chopped yellow onion, kosher salt, coarse ground pepper, and Worcestershire sauce to the skillet. Continue cooking until the beef is fully browned, approximately another 3-4 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Mix in Pickles: Stir in the chopped hamburger pickles to the beef mixture and cook for an additional minute to combine flavors.
- Prepare the Secret Sauce: In a medium bowl, combine mayonnaise, French dressing, sweet relish, ketchup, white vinegar, onion powder, and salt. Stir well to create the McDonald’s copycat Big Mac secret sauce.
- Add Sauce to Beef Mixture: Pour 1 cup of the secret sauce into the skillet with the beef mixture and stir to combine. Reserve the remaining sauce for assembling the sandwiches.
- Assemble the Sandwiches: Toast the sesame seed buns lightly if desired. On the bottom bun layer, spread some secret sauce, add a portion of the beef mixture, followed by a slice of American cheese, shredded iceberg lettuce, and a few hamburger pickle chips. Repeat for the double decker effect if desired, then cap with the top bun. Optionally, add more sauce as preferred.
Notes
- For best texture, finely chop the onions and pickles.
- Toasting the hamburger buns lightly gives extra crunch and flavor.
- The double decker structure mimics the Big Mac: bottom bun, sauce, beef, cheese, lettuce, pickles, middle bun, more sauce, beef, lettuce, pickles, top bun.
- Adjust the amount of secret sauce to taste.
- Use 85/15 ground beef for a good balance of flavor and fat content.
- Serve immediately while hot for best taste.
