Description
These Black Cat Oreos are a fun and festive treat perfect for Halloween parties or anytime you want to add a spooky twist to classic Oreo cookies. Decorated with candy eyes, chocolate buttons, and triangle-shaped candies for ears, they’re easy to make and sure to delight kids and adults alike.
Ingredients
Scale
Cookies
- 15 Oreo cookies
Chocolate Coating
- 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Decorations
- 30 candy eyes
- 15 candy-coated chocolate buttons (brown recommended)
- 30 small triangle-shaped candies (orange or chocolate-colored for ears)
- Black decorating gel
Instructions
- Melt Chocolate: Place the semisweet chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl and heat on high for 30 seconds. Stir well until smooth and fully melted, ensuring there are no lumps.
- Prepare Oreos: Lay out the 15 Oreo cookies on a parchment-lined tray or plate to prepare for decoration.
- Attach Buttons: Dip the back of a candy-coated chocolate button into the melted chocolate and press it firmly onto the center of each Oreo cookie to serve as the cat’s nose. Allow chocolate to set slightly to hold the button in place.
- Add Eyes: Using melted chocolate as glue, attach two candy eyes above the nose on each Oreo. Make sure they are evenly spaced to create the cat’s face.
- Create Ears: Dab melted chocolate onto the back of two small triangle-shaped candies and press them onto the top edges of each Oreo cookie to form cat ears. Hold briefly for them to adhere properly.
- Detail Faces: Use black decorating gel to draw whiskers and a mouth on each cookie beneath the button nose, adding character and expression to each black cat.
- Set and Serve: Let all the decorated Oreos sit at room temperature or in the refrigerator until the chocolate has fully set, about 20-30 minutes, before serving.
Notes
- Melt chocolate slowly and stir frequently to prevent burning.
- If you can’t find small triangle candies for ears, try cutting triangular pieces from colored candy melts or fruit snacks.
- Store the finished cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
- For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free sandwich cookies instead of Oreos.
