Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 2 cans (15 oz each) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (28 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Spices
- 2 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Sauté Vegetables: Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the diced onion and red bell pepper and sauté for 4-5 minutes until softened and fragrant.
- Cook Ground Beef and Garlic: Add the minced garlic and ground beef to the pot. Break up the beef with a spoon and cook until browned and no longer pink, about 6-7 minutes.
- Add Spices: Stir in chili powder, ground cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook for about 1 minute to allow the spices to become aromatic.
- Add Liquids and Beans: Pour in the diced tomatoes, drained kidney beans, and beef broth. Stir everything together well to combine the ingredients evenly.
- Simmer the Chili: Bring the chili to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot and let it simmer for 45-60 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking and to blend the flavors.
- Adjust Seasoning and Serve: Taste the chili and adjust the seasoning as needed. Serve hot and garnish with your favorite toppings like shredded cheese, sour cream, or chopped green onions.
Notes
- For a spicier chili, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or chopped jalapeños when adding the spices.
