Description

Experience the rich and creamy taste of Disneyland’s famous Hot Chocolate with this easy-to-make recipe combining velvety milk, high-quality cocoa, and luscious sweetened condensed milk for the perfect cozy treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Milk Base

  • 23 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream

Chocolate Mixture

  • ½ cup high-quality cocoa powder
  • 12 tablespoons grated milk chocolate

Additional Ingredients

  • 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • ⅛ teaspoon vanilla extract

Toppings

  • Whipped cream
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Chocolate shavings (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the milk base: In a medium-sized heavy-bottomed saucepan, pour 2-3 cups of whole milk and ½ cup of heavy whipping cream. Warm over medium heat until the mixture is steaming and small bubbles form around the edges. Make sure not to let it boil to avoid scalding and an unpleasant taste.
  2. Prepare chocolate mixture: In a small bowl, whisk together ½ cup cocoa powder and 1-2 tablespoons grated milk chocolate. Add about ½ cup of the hot milk mixture from the saucepan into the bowl and whisk until completely smooth, preventing lumps in the final hot chocolate.
  3. Combine ingredients: Gradually pour the smooth chocolate mixture back into the saucepan while whisking constantly. Add the entire 14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk and ⅛ teaspoon vanilla extract. Whisk everything until fully combined and smooth.
  4. Final simmer: Lower the heat to low and let the mixture simmer gently for 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently. The hot chocolate should thicken to coat the back of a spoon. Taste and adjust the thickness by adding more milk if desired.
  5. Serve immediately: Ladle the hot chocolate into heat-resistant mugs. Top with whipped cream, a sprinkle of ground cinnamon, and optionally add chocolate shavings for an extra touch. Serve while hot to enjoy an authentic Disneyland experience.

Notes

  • Do not allow the milk mixture to boil to prevent scalding and bitterness.
  • Use high-quality cocoa powder and chocolate for the best flavor.
  • If the hot chocolate is too thick, thin it with a little more warm milk.
  • Sweetened condensed milk adds sweetness and creamy texture; do not substitute with other sweeteners.
  • Chocolate shavings on top are optional but add extra depth and presentation appeal.
  • This recipe serves best when consumed immediately, as reheating may change texture.
