Ingredients
Scale
Hollandaise Sauce
- ¾ cup of soft tofu
- 2 teaspoons of mustard
- 4 tablespoons of nutritional yeast
- 1 ½ teaspoons of lemon juice
- ½ cup of plain unsweetened plant-based milk
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 2 teaspoons of soy sauce
- Pinch of paprika
- Pinch of turmeric
- Salt & pepper, to taste
Optional for Serving
- 8 slices of bread or English muffins, toasted
- 1 tomato, thinly sliced
- 1 avocado, thinly sliced
- Cayenne pepper, for garnishing
- Paprika, for garnishing
- Freshly ground black pepper, for garnishing
Instructions
- Blend the sauce ingredients: Place the soft tofu, mustard, nutritional yeast, lemon juice, plant-based milk, olive oil, soy sauce, paprika, and turmeric into a blender. Blend the mixture until it’s completely smooth. Once blended, season with salt and pepper to your taste.
- Warm the sauce: Pour the blended hollandaise sauce into a saucepan and gently warm it over low heat, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking or burning. Heat until the sauce is warmed through but not boiling.
- Assemble the sandwich (optional): Toast your choice of bread or English muffins. On each half, layer a slice of tomato and avocado slices. Drizzle the warm hollandaise sauce over the top, then garnish with a sprinkle of freshly ground black pepper, paprika, and cayenne pepper to add a hint of heat and extra flavor.
Notes
- Use soft tofu for a creamy texture; firm tofu will not blend as smoothly.
- The nutritional yeast adds a cheesy flavor that enhances the sauce’s umami.
- You can adjust the thickness of the sauce by adding more or less plant-based milk.
- Warming the sauce gently prevents it from curdling or separating.
- The garnishes are optional but add appealing color and an extra kick of flavor.
- This sauce can be used as a dip or drizzle in various dishes beyond sandwiches.
