Ingredients

Scale

Stew Meat

  • 1 1/22 pounds stew meat
  • 12 teaspoons Lawry’s seasoning salt
  • 1/41/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 34 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 1/23 cups water (reserve broth after simmering)

For Serving

  • 1 package extra wide egg noodles

Beef Gravy

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/81/4 teaspoon Lawry’s seasoning salt, to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 1/23 cups reserved beef broth from cooked stew meat
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) beef broth
  • 1/8 teaspoon paprika

Instructions

  1. Season the stew meat: Sprinkle the stew meat with Lawry’s seasoning salt to infuse flavor into the beef.
  2. Coat the meat with flour: Lightly coat the seasoned meat with all-purpose flour, which helps in browning and thickening the gravy later.
  3. Heat oil in a saucepan: Warm 3 to 4 tablespoons of olive oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat.
  4. Brown the stew meat: Add the floured stew meat to the hot oil, browning it on all sides to develop a rich crust and depth of flavor.
  5. Simmer the meat: Pour in 2 1/2 to 3 cups of water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium/high and boil until the meat is tender, about 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes, adding water as needed to keep the meat covered.
  6. Let the meat stand: Remove the meat from heat, cover, and let it stand briefly to settle flavors.
  7. Prepare the egg noodles: Cook the extra wide egg noodles according to the package directions and set aside.
  8. Separate meat and broth: Remove the cooked stew meat and broth from the saucepan and place them in a bowl, reserving the broth for the gravy.
  9. Melt butter for the gravy: In the same saucepan used for cooking the meat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
  10. Add flour to the butter: Stir in 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until the mixture is browned, forming a roux for the gravy.
  11. Season the roux: Add Lawry’s seasoning salt and ground black pepper to taste, stirring to incorporate.
  12. Combine ingredients for gravy: Add the reserved beef broth, cooked stew meat, and one can of beef broth to the roux in the saucepan.
  13. Simmer until thickened: Let the mixture simmer, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to a gravy consistency.
  14. Add paprika: Stir in 1/8 teaspoon of paprika for warmth and mild spice.
  15. Serve the dish: Spoon the beef tips and rich gravy over the cooked extra wide egg noodles. Optionally, serve with rice or mashed potatoes for a comforting meal.

Notes

  • You can substitute the egg noodles with rice or mashed potatoes as alternative serving options.
  • Adjust seasoning salt quantities to suit your taste preferences and dietary restrictions.
  • Adding water during the simmering process helps keep the meat tender and prevents the pot from drying out.
  • The gravy thickens as it simmers; if too thick, add a little water or broth to reach desired consistency.
  • This recipe requires approximately 1 hour 30 minutes of simmering, so plan accordingly for a complete meal prep.
