  • Author: lina
  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

Oven Baked Hotdogs combine classic flavors with a comforting baked twist. Hot dogs are stuffed inside buns lined with mayonnaise, mustard, and relish, then topped with savory chili, fresh diced onions, and melted cheddar cheese. Baked to perfection, this hearty dish is perfect for a family-friendly meal or game day snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Hot Dogs and Buns

  • 8 hot dogs
  • 8 hot dog buns

Toppings and Fillings

  • 1 can of chili (or leftover homemade chili, about 15 oz)
  • 1/2 an onion, diced
  • Cheddar cheese, shredded (about 1 cup)
  • Mayonnaise (to spread inside buns, about 1/4 cup)
  • Stone ground mustard (to spread inside buns, about 1/4 cup)
  • Dill relish (about 1/4 cup)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Buns: Line the inside of each hot dog bun with a layer of mayonnaise and stone ground mustard. Evenly distribute dill relish over the spreads to add a tangy flavor base.
  2. Assemble Hot Dogs: Place one hot dog inside each prepared bun. Squeeze the stuffed buns gently but firmly and arrange them side by side in a 9×13 inch baking pan, ensuring they fit snugly.
  3. Add Toppings: Spoon a generous amount of chili over each hot dog, then sprinkle diced onion evenly on top. Finish by covering with shredded cheddar cheese to create a melty crust during baking.
  4. Bake: Cover the baking pan tightly with aluminum foil to retain moisture. Place in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) and bake for 45 minutes.
  5. Serve: Carefully remove the pan from the oven. Use a spatula to lift out the hot dogs, letting excess chili drip back into the pan. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add jalapeños or hot sauce to the chili before baking.
  • Use leftover homemade chili for a richer, more personalized flavor.
  • Be sure to cover tightly with foil to keep the hot dogs moist and cheese melted perfectly.
  • Substitute cheddar cheese with your favorite cheese like pepper jack or mozzarella for variation.
  • You can prepare the stuffed buns in advance and refrigerate before baking, perfect for entertaining guests.
