Description

Celebrate the 4th of July with this festive Patriotic Poke Cake that features the colors of the American flag in every slice. This easy dessert is perfect for summer gatherings and will wow your guests with its colorful presentation.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake:

  • 1 box white cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box)

For the Jell-O Layers:

  • 1 3 oz box strawberry or cherry Jell-O (red)
  • 1 3 oz box blue raspberry Jell-O (blue)
  • 2 cups boiling water (1 cup per flavor)
  • 1 cup cold water (½ cup per flavor)

For Topping:

  • 8 oz Cool Whip (or whipped topping, thawed)
  • Patriotic sprinkles or fresh berries (optional)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Bake the Cake – Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare the white cake mix according to package directions. Pour into a 9×13-inch baking pan and bake until a toothpick inserted comes out clean (usually 25–30 minutes). Let the cake cool for about 15–20 minutes.
  2. Step 2: Poke & Pour – Using a skewer, large fork, or the end of a wooden spoon, poke holes all over the cooled cake—space them evenly. In separate bowls, mix the red and blue Jell-O powders each with 1 cup boiling water and stir until dissolved. Add ½ cup cold water to each bowl. Carefully pour red Jell-O over half the cake, and blue over the other half. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for best results.
  3. Step 3: Frost & Decorate – Once chilled and the Jell-O has set, spread thawed Cool Whip over the entire surface of the cake. Decorate with red, white, and blue sprinkles, or arrange fresh strawberries and blueberries for a flag-inspired finish.
