  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

This Sauteed Mushrooms with Garlic Butter recipe offers a savory and aromatic side dish featuring tender mushrooms caramelized to perfection in a blend of butter, garlic, and complementary flavorings. Whether using worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, or white wine, this versatile recipe elevates any meal with its rich umami notes and golden brown sear.

Ingredients

Scale

Mushrooms

  • 2 lb mushrooms (any variety; cut large ones in half)

Cooking Fats

  • 2 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 Tablespoon avocado oil

Flavorings

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1½ Tablespoons worcestershire sauce (OR)
  • 1½ Tablespoons balsamic vinegar (OR)
  • 1½ Tablespoons soy sauce (OR)
  • 1½ Tablespoons white wine

Seasonings and Garnish

  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped parsley or other herbs for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prep the Mushrooms: Wash the mushrooms thoroughly. Cut any larger mushrooms in half to ensure all pieces are roughly the same size for even cooking.
  2. Dry Saute: Heat a pan over medium-high heat. Add the mushrooms in a single layer without any oil or butter. Stir occasionally as the mushrooms release their liquid over about 3 to 4 minutes. Drain or allow the liquid to evaporate for concentrated mushroom flavor and a proper golden sear.
  3. Add Garlic, Butter & Flavorings: Once the mushroom liquid has been removed, add the avocado oil, butter, minced garlic, and your choice of worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, or white wine. Continue sautéing the mushrooms until they turn golden brown, about 3 to 4 minutes more.
  4. Season and Serve: Turn off the heat. Season the mushrooms with salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with chopped parsley or your preferred herbs before serving.

Notes

  • Using a single layer of mushrooms in the pan ensures even browning.
  • Removing mushroom liquid is crucial to achieving a caramelized sear and avoiding sogginess.
  • You can use any mushroom variety, including cremini, button, shiitake, or portobello.
  • Choose the flavoring (worcestershire, balsamic, soy sauce, or white wine) according to your preferred taste profile.
  • Serve as a side dish or as a topping for steak, chicken, or pasta.
