Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Vegetables
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 small cabbage, shredded (about 4 cups)
Canned and Pantry Items
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, with juice
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
- Cook Beef and Onion: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until the beef is browned and the onion is softened, about 7 minutes. Drain off any excess fat to keep the dish from being greasy.
- Add Vegetables and Seasonings: Stir in the shredded cabbage, diced tomatoes with their juice, cooked rice, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything thoroughly to combine the flavors.
- Simmer Mixture: Allow the mixture to simmer gently for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, so the flavors meld and the cabbage begins to soften.
- Transfer to Baking Dish: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly to ensure uniform cooking.
- Bake: Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender and the flavors have melded beautifully.
- Rest and Serve: Remove the dish from the oven and let it rest, covered, for 5 minutes to allow the bake to set. Serve warm as a satisfying main course.
Notes
- For a lower-carb version, substitute the cooked rice with cauliflower rice.
- You can add shredded cheese on top before baking for a cheesy twist.
- If you prefer spicier food, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or hot sauce.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
- Use lean ground beef (90% lean or higher) to reduce fat content.
