Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 1 large cucumber (unpeeled)
- 2 cups plain full-fat Greek yogurt
- 2 large garlic cloves (minced, or more to taste)
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill (minced)
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Grate and Drain Cucumber: Using a box grater or food processor, grate the whole cucumber. Then place the grated cucumber in cheesecloth or a clean tea towel and squeeze out as much liquid as possible to ensure your tzatziki sauce remains thick and creamy.
- Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the shredded and drained cucumber with 2 cups of plain full-fat Greek yogurt, minced garlic, extra virgin olive oil, fresh lemon juice, fresh minced dill, and salt. Stir until well combined.
- Chill and Serve: Cover the bowl and refrigerate the tzatziki sauce for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld. Serve chilled as a dip or condiment alongside pita bread, vegetables, grilled meats, or gyros.
Notes
- For best flavor, refrigerate overnight to let ingredients meld.
- Adjust garlic quantity to taste for a milder or stronger garlic flavor.
- Squeezing out cucumber liquid is key for a creamy texture.
- Use full-fat Greek yogurt for authentic richness and consistency.
- Fresh dill is preferred but dried dill can be substituted if needed.
