  • Author: lina
  • Total Time: 2 hours 15 minutes
  • Yield: About 2 cups 1x
  • Diet: Gluten Free

Description

This authentic Greek Tzatziki Sauce is a creamy, tangy cucumber yogurt sauce perfect as a refreshing dip or condiment. Made with fresh cucumber, full-fat Greek yogurt, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, and dill, it’s easy to prepare and enhances the flavor of grilled meats, vegetables, pita bread, and gyros.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1 large cucumber (unpeeled)
  • 2 cups plain full-fat Greek yogurt
  • 2 large garlic cloves (minced, or more to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill (minced)
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Grate and Drain Cucumber: Using a box grater or food processor, grate the whole cucumber. Then place the grated cucumber in cheesecloth or a clean tea towel and squeeze out as much liquid as possible to ensure your tzatziki sauce remains thick and creamy.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the shredded and drained cucumber with 2 cups of plain full-fat Greek yogurt, minced garlic, extra virgin olive oil, fresh lemon juice, fresh minced dill, and salt. Stir until well combined.
  3. Chill and Serve: Cover the bowl and refrigerate the tzatziki sauce for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld. Serve chilled as a dip or condiment alongside pita bread, vegetables, grilled meats, or gyros.

Notes

  • For best flavor, refrigerate overnight to let ingredients meld.
  • Adjust garlic quantity to taste for a milder or stronger garlic flavor.
  • Squeezing out cucumber liquid is key for a creamy texture.
  • Use full-fat Greek yogurt for authentic richness and consistency.
  • Fresh dill is preferred but dried dill can be substituted if needed.
